A true pearl

The legend says the ancient Greek goddess of love and beauty Aphrodite came out of the sea, shook her head and the falling drop from her beautiful Golden hair turned into precious pearls. Sandro Botticelli in his “Birth of Venus” (in ancient Rome Venus is the counterpart of Aphrodite) depicted the goddess standing in a shell. The legend is beautiful, no doubt, and how else can we explain the origin of such a perfect stone?
