Tolima pendants with abstract and geometric human and animal forms were common in Mesoamerica in the pre-Columbian period. The artifacts depicted shows splayed human forms with extended arms and legs, but also a large bifurcated tail. Long, extended ears are another common feature incorporated in both human and animal figures. Many of the beings are depicted with bared teeth, a detail that has been identified with felines, foxes, and bats.
