This ring is an example of ornamentation from the Central Javanese period. The carambola, or starfruit, is native to many countries in Asia - the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mauritius and the Seychelles. The most unique visual quality of the starfruit is its star-shaped cross section, a common inspiration for textiles and jewelry from 8th–early 10th century.
